Texas Rep. Lance Gooden Talks About the Continuing Resolution: Clean, No Pork, Yet the Dems Still Hate It

During an appearance on “The Faulkner Focus” with host Harris Faulkner on Fox News, Representative Lance Gooden (R-TX) discussed the current continuing resolution aimed at funding the federal government. Rep. Gooden highlighted the cleanliness of the CR, noting the absence of any “pet projects,” despite facing opposition from Democrats.

The conversation (in case you’re experiencing the X outages that seem to be plaguing us Monday) was to the point:

HARRIS FAULKNER: Talk to me about some good things with this bill and if you think you can hold Republicans together.

Rep. Gooden raised the issue of Democratic opposition, questioning their reluctance to support a bill that he described as a “clean CR” devoid of any controversial add-ons. He compared this stance to past criticisms from Democrats, such as Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s accusations against Republicans for endangering government operations by not backing funding measures.

HARRIS FAULKNER: A lot.

LANCE GOODEN: Now here we are, Democrats are refusing to vote for this bill, it’s a clean CR, continuing resolution, it’s got a few things in it, it funds veteran’s services, it ups spending on border deportations for ICE. Our border czar has been coming to the Capitol, saying ‘I need more money, I can send more out of here but I need more money to do it.’ This does it.

There are no pet projects. All the usual stuff that folks hate about these continuing resolutions is not in this CR. And so tomorrow at 4PM, it’s scheduled for a vote, I believe it will pass, I believe it will then go to the Senate, it will get over 50 votes, and it will be up to the Democrats whether there’s a government shutdown or not.

We feel certain that Rep. Gooden is savvy enough to know not to expect intellectual consistency from Democrats. If Republicans oppose a spending bill that results in a partial government shutdown, no matter how ridiculous or pork-laden their CR is, then Republicans are evil people pushing grandmas off cliffs. If they oppose a clean CR with some support for Tom “The Hammer” Homan’s broadly popular repatriation efforts, then it is a matter of the highest principle, and also, Orange Man Bad.

It’s safe to say that support for veterans is widely popular as well.
