The national police force of La Policia Nacional stated that a male friend who was with Konanki at the time of her disappearance is currently being investigated.
Although the identity of the “young man” remains unknown, the police mentioned that he was present at the beach during the same period. They are interrogating him to validate the events as per a translated statement in Spanish.
Regarding reports suggesting that Konanki might have drowned, a representative from the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office mentioned to Fox News Digital that there is no evidence backing this claim at the moment.
“As of last night, investigators were still actively interviewing persons who may have seen or been with her last Wednesday evening and Thursday morning, as well as reviewing surveillance video and phone records to help ascertain what happened and why,” spokesperson Thomas Julia said.
Fox News’ Michael Dorgan, Greg Norman, Lorraine Taylor and Audrey Conklin contributed to this report.
