A man from Highlands Ranch in Douglas County was taken into custody on suspicion of child abuse following a report from a hospital about a 3-month-old infant being treated for injuries, the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office announced Thursday.

The incident unfolded on March 6, when detectives from the Special Victims Unit of the sheriff’s office were notified about the infant’s injuries upon being brought to the hospital. Details about the nature of the injuries were not disclosed at the time.

Following an investigation, detectives concluded that the injuries were likely the result of child abuse inflicted by one of the child’s parents, according to the sheriff’s office.

On March 12, law enforcement took Bryan Cunningham, 33, of Highlands Ranch into custody. He was transported to the Douglas County Detention Facility and was booked on a charge of child abuse resulting in serious bodily injury, which is a class 3 felony.
