Fire near Garden of the Gods Thursday determined to be arson, suspect in custody

Update as of 10:05 p.m.

The Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) has announced that 48-year-old Adam Gilmour has been officially charged with fourth-degree arson concerning a fire that occurred near Garden of the Gods.

According to police reports, the individual who reported the fire to emergency services mentioned potentially witnessing someone igniting the fire and leaving the vicinity. Following an inquiry, a man was identified as the individual responsible for the incident. Gilmour was promptly located in close proximity and apprehended without any resistance.

Update as of 4:40 p.m.

CSFD says the fire was around 20 acres, and is fully contained. Approximately 40 CSFD personnel were sent to the fire Thursday afternoon.

Firefighters were able to prevent the fire from damaging three homes.

The area encompassing 30th St. between Garden of the Gods Rd and Mesa Rd. will remain sealed off until further updates are provided. Fortunately, Garden of the Gods Park itself was unharmed by the fire. However, access to the Palmer Mesa Trail has been restricted at Sinton due to safety concerns.

CSFD thanks the community for the influx of phone calls they received for this fire.

A grass fire burning near Garden of the Gods Thursday afternoon is now contained, according to the Colorado Springs Fire Department (CSFD).

Update as of 3:45 p.m.

CSFD says that crews are โ€œgetting a good knock downโ€ on the fire, but people should continue to avoid the area.

Road closures:

  • Southbound 30th Street is closed at Garden of the Gods Road
  • Northbound 30th St is closed at Mesa Rd

CSFD is asking for people to avoid the area.
