According to a former FBI investigator and international security expert, the recent escalation in the travel advisory level in Turks and Caicos is a result of various factors, potentially including an increase in foreign migrants entering the region.
Sharing insights on the situation, Bill Daly, who transitioned from the FBI to roles in leading international security and investigative organizations, discussed with Fox News Digital the decision made by the U.S. State Department to elevate the travel advisory status of this popular vacation spot to a Level 2 due to heightened crime rates.
Since the beginning of this year, Turks and Caicos has seen an influx of migrant rafts coming ashore.
By February 18, the country had already intercepted four vessels in 2025, leading to the detainment of a total of 296 “irregular migrants” during that period. Subsequently, on March 4, the State Department announced the updated travel advisory.
They narrowly escaped 12-year prison sentences, and Turks and Caicos has since updated its laws to provide more leniency in such cases.
