WASHINGTON – U.S. Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard, speaking prior to an anticipated phone call Tuesday between President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin, mentioned on Monday that negotiations to end the Russian war with Ukraine have just commenced. Trump is optimistic about the outcome.
Gabbard criticized former President Joe Biden’s management of the conflict in Ukraine, indicating that Trump’s efforts to persuade both sides to agree to a ceasefire stem from a strong dedication to peace.
Gabbard emphasized the lack of peace efforts or direct dialogue with Putin to resolve the war during the previous administration. She commended Trump for making more progress towards peace in a short span of time than previous attempts. According to NDTV, Gabbard stated, “President Trump will hold a highly productive discussion with Putin when the time is right, based on his resolute commitment to peace.”
While in India, Gabbard will speak to an international security conference. Her trip also includes stops in Japan and Thailand.
