How the Baldwin Wallace football team is helping make a difference in Northeast Ohio

BEREA, Ohio — Ask any coach or player about legacy.

Zachary Cugluski, a sophomore at BW, expresses his passion for volunteering to help those in need, especially the less fortunate. He finds joy in dedicating his time to making a difference in the community.

At Baldwin Wallace, an unbreakable bond is forming.

Cugluski values the camaraderie within the football team, describing it as a strong brotherhood. He appreciates the support of his teammates, making it easier to take initiative and organize charitable activities.

Something like what Cugluski saw while he was scrolling.

Upon noticing a prevalent trend on TikTok where influencers were sharing videos of themselves distributing meals to the homeless, Cugluski felt inspired to take action. He collaborated with his friend, Josiah, to turn their ideas into reality. By mobilizing volunteers and gathering donations from the football team, they were able to provide meals to approximately 400 to 500 individuals in need.

“We’ve had numbers grow from the first one to the last,” said Dominic Biagiotti. “We always have small contributions from different players, so at one point we maybe had 75 to 100 guys contribute money or something like that.”

Their efforts are making a difference in the community, hosting donation drivers for those in need. They’ve collected all different things like food, toiletries and money to donate to the Lutheran Men’s Shelter in Cleveland.

“Team bonding in a way, you know, bringing everyone together, engaging everyone, going and helping people that need it the most and, just lifting spirits,” said sophomore Josiah Sessler.

And every little bit let’s that legacy live on.

“Whether it’s the next generation of athletes, it doesn’t matter what sport, whether it’s football or basketball or anything else, but it’s something that can last more than just today and that we can do this continue this forever,” said Biagiotti.

They are set to host their fourth donation drive at the end of the semester.
