A young child from Illinois is currently in critical condition due to sustaining a fractured skull and a brain bleed. The incident occurred when the mother’s boyfriend reportedly elbowed the toddler in the face after she threw his cell phone at him.
During the time of the incident, the child’s mother was present in the home but did not witness the actual event. The mother’s boyfriend, 21-year-old Jordan Padilla, did not disclose the details of what had occurred to the mother.
Emergency services were alerted via a 911 call reporting that the 2-year-old girl was found “unconscious but breathing” shortly before 7 p.m. on a Saturday. Law enforcement officers arrived at the scene as medical personnel were transporting the child to a nearby hospital. Subsequently, the child was moved to a hospital in the Chicago area while in critical condition.
Deputies said Padilla first provided statements to medics “that were not consistent with how the child received the observed bruising to her face” and later “made incriminating statements” to investigators.
Padilla struck the child “because he was angry at her for throwing his cellphone at him,” Jungles told the Herald-News.
“Padilla also indicated that he never informed the mother what had happened either,” he said.
Padilla has been charged with battery, domestic battery, aggravated battery, aggravated domestic battery, and aggravated battery of a child.
The little girl is reportedly in critical but stable condition in the Chicago hospital.
