For most young Major League Baseball fans, the two players of the new generation that catch their attention are the sons of former “Big League” players: Vladimir Guerrero Jr. of the Toronto Blue Jays and Fernando Tatis Jr. of the San Diego Padres.

Tatis is injured and his return to the ballparks is still some time away, but for Guerrero, this Wednesday was one more confirmation of his superstar status, and on the biggest stage of all, Yankee Stadium.

Vladimir Guerrero Jr.’s show at Yankee Stadium

Born in Montreal, Canada in 1999, when his father played for the Montreal Expos, Guerrero hit three home runs in a game for the third time in his young career during Toronto’s 6-4 win over the New York Yankees in the third game of the series between the two American League East rivals.

Early in the game, the player of Dominican descent hit a pitch from Yankees starter Chad Green, which sailed 109.1 mph across center field just over the 408-foot fence to give his team the early lead.

Aaron Hicks floored his hand in the second inning

However, in the second inning, playing defensively at first base, Aaron Hicks got caught with an infield hity in the process stepping on VG27‘s right hand with his spikes, who looked like he would be out of the game as his hand dramatically drew blood.

But that sad end to the night didn’t come, as 10 minutes later, in the top of the third inning, Guerrero again blew the fence, this time connecting with a 98 mph fastball from Green and driving the ball down the left field line that was lost in the stands after flying for 427 feet.

The third HR was the longest

The night became historic in the eighth inning, when Guerrero hit his third home run, the longest of all at 443 feet at 114.4 mph to be applauded by some Yankees fans.

At the end of the game, Guerrero hit 4-3 with four RBIs to reach four home runs so far this season.
