There was a major scare at Harry Maguire‘s family home this Thursday, with Cheshire Police having to come to the Manchester United player’s house to conduct a thorough sweep.

The threat was received on Wednesday and the police brought a specialised explosives dog to the home, where Maguire lives with his fiance and two children, on Thursday afternoon.

“On Wednesday 20 April, Cheshire Police were called to reports of a bomb threat at an address in the Wilmslow area,” a police statement explained.

“No evacuations took place, but as a precautionary measure a police explosives dog has attended the address this afternoon, Thursday 21 April, to conduct a search of the gardens and surrounding area.”

According to The Sun, the police were notified via an email, which warned that a bomb would soon be planted at Maguire‘s family home.

Harry Maguire’s response to the bomb threat

The Manchester United captain hasn’t yet spoke publicly about this frightening incident, but his spokesperson has released a statement.

“In the last 24 hours, Harry has received a serious threat to his family home,” the statement started.

“He has reported this to the police who are now looking into the matter. The safety of his family and those around him is obviously Harry‘s number one priority.

“He will continue to prepare for this weekend’s fixture as normal and we will not be commenting in any further detail at this time.”

Other death threats to Manchester United players

This is not the first threat that has been made against Manchester United players this season, with many receiving such threats via social media. Often, it is the family members who are sent the messages.

Harry Maguire is one of the players who regularly receives abuse on social media and there is currently a petition to strip him of the Manchester United captaincy.

Now, this Thursday, it appears one individual has taken the abuse to the next level and the police are investigating.
