The last time a half-dozen games were suspended because of bad weather was April 15, 2018, when snow, sleet, wind and rain conspired to close stadiums. That was the most since Sept. 12, 2008, when there were also six as a result of Hurricane Ike, which impacted the Gulf Coast and led to the suspensions.

Astros Max Scherzer, Shane Bieber and Gerrit Cole had a chance to shower early Friday

So did the rest of the ballplayers who were to participate in the six rain-suspended games, the most in Major League Baseball on a single day due to weather since 2018.

Wrigley Field, Yankee Stadium and Camden Yards were among the ballparks where games were postponed. And there’s no guarantee the rain will go away over the weekend.

Heavy rains on the East Coast, plus Ohio and Illinois dampened the weekend schedule

Games postponed were Kansas City at Baltimore, Texas at home to the New York Yankees, Toronto at Cleveland, the Los Angeles Dodgers at Chicago Cubs Park, the New York Mets at Philadelphia and Pittsburgh at Cincinnati.

Teams facing division rivals moved the rescheduled dates to the summer. The Pirates and Reds rescheduled to July. The Mets and Phillies moved to August.

Bieber and the Guardians will try to host Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and the Blue Jays in a traditional doubleheader on Saturday. Cleveland has had four home games suspended due to weather this season and will play its third doubleheader at Progressive Field.

Dodgers starter Clayton Kershaw is expected to pitch Saturday in a doubleheader against the Cubs. The weather forecast calls for a clear but mild day at Wrigley for those games.

The Royals-Orioles and Rangers-Yankees series are scheduled for a Sunday doubleheader. But it remains to be seen whether they can be played in their entirety: rain is forecast for Saturday in Baltimore and New York.
