Dmitry Bivol’s shock victory over Canelo Alvarez earned Floyd Mayweather a lot of money on Saturday night, as the American had bet on Bivol to win the bout.

Mayweather put up a stake of 10,000 dollars and won 42,500 dollars thanks to the odds of 17/4, or +450.

Afterwards, the American shared a photo of his betting slip on Instagram, proudly boasting that he predicted the Russian’s upset win and writing “easy pick up” as the caption.

Bivol’s victory in Las Vegas means he has retained his WBA light-heavyweight title, as well as his unbeaten record.

He was declared the victor after all three judges had scorecards of 115-113 in his favour.

“My last fights, I didn’t enjoy it in the fight as it wasn’t a challenge for me,” Bivol said afterwards.

“I just defended my title against some guys, and everyone bet on me.

“But, I enjoyed this one, and I heard a lot of fans yelling. It motivated me today, and I really enjoyed the fight.”

Floyd Mayweather’s history with Canelo Alvarez

Mayweather and Canelo Alvarez have had beef in the past, so this might partly explain why the 45-year-old bet against the Mexican.

They fought back in 2013, when a then-22-year-old Canelo was beaten by Mayweather with a majority decision ruling.

Canelo Alvarez, this guy can pick and choose who he wants to fight,” Mayweather has since said of that rival, speaking to Showtime Boxing.

“I’m going to tell you all the truth about Canelo. That mother f**ker is easy, man. Cakewalk. Easy.

“Y’all sitting up here praising this dude. This dude was nothing. I was almost 40 years old when I cooked this dude. Easy.”

It’s clear that Mayweather doesn’t rate Canelo Alvarez, but the Mexican hadn’t lost any of his fights since facing ‘Money’, winning 15 and drawing one. That changed, though, with Saturday’s defeat to Bivol.
