Idaho smokehouse recalls nearly 30,000 pounds of beef sticks over metal contamination risk

The sticks were shipped to stores in California and Illinois, but the company urges everyone to check the product codes.

An Idaho-based company called Idaho Smokehouse Partners, LLC, has recalled around 29,541 pounds of beef stick products that are already cooked. This recall was initiated due to the potential presence of small metal pieces in the products, as announced by the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) on Thursday.

The recall impacts 1.15-ounce beef sticks labeled as “CHOMPS ORIGINAL BEEF STICK MILD” that were produced between January 13 and 15, 2025. These specific products have an expiration date of February 10, 2026, and bear the lot code 25016 on their packaging. To identify the recalled beef sticks, consumers should look for the establishment number “6220A” printed on the package.

KTVB reached out to the company to ask if any products were sold in Idaho.

A spokesperson for the company stated that they are grateful for the notification regarding the recall. They mentioned that they are unable to disclose information about where the products were distributed by state. However, they advised all consumers to visit chomps.com/recall and check the lot code of their purchased products to determine if they are part of the recall.

The USDA website states the sticks were shipped to stores located in California and Illinois.

People can get information on the company’s website and look up the product codes by clicking here.

“Chomps is voluntarily issuing an internal recall of select Original Beef Sticks and Original Turkey sticks produced at Idaho Smokehouse Partners, due to the potential presence of foreign material, specifically metal fragment,” the website states. “The issue was discovered after Chomps investigated two consumer complaints reporting the potential presence of metal fragment in the meat stick product. There have been no reported adverse reaction or injuries. This internal recall was initiated as a precautionary measure out of an abundance of caution. Our consumers are, and always will be, our number one priority.”

No injuries have been reported so far, but people who may have consumed the product and have health concerns are advised to contact a medical professional.

FSIS urges consumers to check their pantries and discard or return the recalled products. The agency regularly monitors recalls to ensure that affected items are removed from circulation. When available, a list of retail locations where the product was sold will be posted at www.fsis.usda.gov/recalls.
