Minnesota plane crash: Small plane crashes into home in Brooklyn Park, Minneapolis suburb, FAA says

BROOKLYN PARK, Minn. — A small plane traveling from Iowa crashed in a Minneapolis, Minnesota, suburb Saturday, investigators said.

The Federal Aviation Administration said the SOCATA TBM7 crashed in a residential area in Brooklyn Park, Minnesota, around 12:20 p.m. local time.

After assessing the situation, Brooklyn Park Fire Chief Shawn Conway stated that they have little hope for any survivors following the plane crash into a residential property in the suburb. The exact number of passengers aboard the aircraft remains unconfirmed at this time.

Firefighters were on the scene fighting a major fire at the crash site and at least one home caught fire, according to ABC affiliate KTSP.

All of the residents of the home are safe, the fire chief said.

The plane departed from Des Moines International Airport in Iowa and was headed to Anoka County-Blaine Airport in Minneapolis, the FAA said.

Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz said on X that he is aware of the crash and is monitoring the situation.

Chief Conway mentioned, “Our team is coordinating with local authorities at the Brooklyn Park site, keeping a close eye on the developing circumstances. We extend our appreciation to the swift response of the initial responders.”

The National Transportation Safety Board will lead the investigation and work with the FAA.

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) informed that their investigators are en route to the crash location, expected to make it by tomorrow. Once there, they will document the crash site and inspect the aircraft thoroughly. Subsequently, the plane will be transported to a secure facility for further analysis, as outlined in the NTSB’s official statement.
