Scammers claim that police officer Katie Cunningham is missing

Law enforcement shared news of the messed up scam on social media, warning residents to be wary of missing persons posts lacking information.

The Buckeye police department in Arizona warned people about a scam. They advised the public to be cautious of any posts that are missing important details such as time, location, or police contact information. It is crucial to always exercise caution before clicking on any suspicious links or sharing personal banking information.

The post shows photos of Katie Cunningham, a sergeant with Montana’s Great Falls Police Department.

The Great Falls police department debunked scammers’ claims that Cunningham was missing.

“We just spoke to her, and she is alive and well at Great Falls High, working as the SRO supervisor,” the department posted on Facebook.

The department then provided crucial details on how to spot a fake missing persons scam.

In the scammers’ initial missing persons post, they had incorrectly wrote information regarding her age, weight, height, and county.

The fake post claimed Cunningham was in “extreme danger and in need of medical assistance.”

The fraudulent post ended by asking for the community’s help and also included the officer’s professional photo.
