Trump ‘takes aim at concert & sport ticket prices in new executive order’ that cracks down on scalping & expensive fees

President Donald Trump is set to announce his strategy for reducing concert and sports event ticket costs by addressing scalping and excessive fees.

The administration is taking a stand against individuals who seek to profit unfairly by exploiting fans eager to attend events featuring their beloved musicians and athletes.

On Friday, Trump will issue an executive order tasking the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) with collaborating with the US Attorney General to ensure that competition regulations are upheld, as reported by TMZ.

The order singles out increased enforcement of the BOTS Act, which bans using bots to buy up large numbers of tickets and resell them for high prices.

Trump also will enlist the Treasury and Justice departments to make sure scalpers follow the BOTS Act.

The BOTS (Better Online Ticket Sales) Act was signed into law by then-President Barack Obama in 2016.

It was first used in 2021 when the FTC sued three New York-based ticket brokers who allegedly used bots to buy tens of thousands of tickets for concerts and sporting events and then made millions in resales.

MLFootball, a football news company, called the anticipated executive order “a major win for all sports fans” on X.

‘IT’S NOT FAIR’

Trump’s order will fulfill a campaign promise to help Americans with high ticket prices.

“Your middle class, which is your biggest sports fans, are being priced out,” Trump said in November 2024 on the Let’s Go podcast.

He added: “It’s not fair.”

Trump took aim at American sports leagues who he said “are not taking care of their fans.”

“They really aren’t,” he added. “They’re making it impossible.”

The president vowed to “work on” decreasing ticket prices for sports fans, saying, “I think there’s things that have to be done.”
