Ryan Garcia is adamant that his likely fight against Gervonta Davis is going to be a much bigger event that the upcoming fight between Canelo Alvarez and Gennady Golovkin.

While Garcia is aware that Canelo vs Golovkin is huge from a marketing standpoint, he is still of the opinion that his fight with Davis will be bigger than both that one and Terence Crawford vs Errol Spence Jr.

It is no argument that Crawford, Spence, Alvarez and Golovkin are operating at a higher level than Garcia right now, but, whilst speaking to DAZN post-fight on Saturday night, Garcia came out swinging.

“Here’s the thing, they’re bigger now, but once the build-up starts and we get it signed, the hype around it will overtake everything,” Garcia said, following his sixth-round knockout of Javier Fortuna at Crypto.com Arena.

“You’ve got to remember that things rise up because people don’t believe it’s going to happen.

“But, once it’s set, it will be bigger than any fight out there. I don’t care about Canelo vs Triple-G III.

“I mean, I love those fights because Crawford and Spence is a fight I always wanted to see.

“But I’m saying commercially, you know, the general public, once that fight’s announced, it’s the biggest fight out there.”

Will Ryan Garcia actually face Gervonta Davis?

Garcia, of Victorville, California, has requested that Baltimore’s Davis move up from the lightweight limit of 135 pounds to the junior welterweight maximum of 140 to face him.

The contract weight for Garcia‘s recent victory over Fortuna was 140 pounds so that’s why he wants Davis to increase his weight to face him.

It remains to be seen if Davis will accept the challenge, but his tweet of “See y’all the end of the year” did suggest he is willing.
