Amy Sherman-Palladino, Creator of ‘Gilmore Girls,’ Open to the Idea of Bringing Back the Show: “Anything is Possible”

No, it’s not snow, it’s the smell of fresh hope in the air for a Gilmore Girls revival.

It has been almost ten years since the popular series made a comeback on Netflix with a special four-episode season titled Gilmore Girls: A Year In the Life. Fans are eager to see more stories from Stars Hollow featuring Lorelai (Lauren Graham), Rory (Alexis Bledel), and Emily Gilmore (Kelly Bishop) at the forefront.

In a recent interview, series creator and executive producer Amy Sherman-Palladino expressed that she is not dismissing the idea of reviving the beloved feel-good series if the inspiration strikes. During a discussion with Decider at a PaleyFest LA event celebrating her work, Sherman-Palladino shared that she is always open to the possibility of bringing back the cherished trio of Gilmore women.

Sherman-Palladino mentioned, “We never say never,” hinting at the potential for the return of the show. She also teased that fans who admire Bishop’s fantastic portrayal of the character in Gilmore Girls will have the opportunity to see more of her exceptional acting in the upcoming Prime Video series, Étoile, which is co-produced by Sherman-Palladino’s husband, Daniel. The new show features The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel Emmy winner Luke Kirby and Yanic Truesdale from Gilmore Girls playing high-strung dancers and choreographers in the professional ballet world.

On the possibility for more episodes, Daniel added, “Even when we say ‘never,’ we’re never saying ‘never.’”

Meanwhile, Bishop — who Sherman-Palladino has described as her “muse” and who she’s worked with on nearly every one of her shows — said that she too would be down to return to Connecticut to revive Emily, the mother and grandmother who raised a generation.

“If she said yes that she wanted another Emily, I mean [more of] me as Emily, I would jump at it,” Bishop told Decider. “Whatever she says, I would do.”

As for Lorelai Gilmore herself, Graham said she has no clue whether or not the world will ever see her character again. “If I knew, I probably wouldn’t tell you, but I don’t, so I can’t even lie about it,” joked the actress, who is currently starring in Tubi’s The Z Suite. 

Let’s hope that she does secretly know about a plan to bring the show back because Gilmore Girls fanatics are still going on about the cliffhanger ending of A Year In the Life. After finally seeing Luke (Scott Patterson) and Lorelai tie the knot in an intimate Stars Hollow ceremony, the series ended with Rory telling her mom that she is pregnant.

In 2023, Gilmore Girls costume designer Valerie Campbell took to TikTok to confirm that Logan Huntzberger (Matt Czuchry) is the one who got Rory pregnant as the two were having an affair. That being said, any self-respecting fan of the series knows that there’s a big difference between a father — cough, cough, Christopher (David Sutcliffe) — and a man who steps up to be a father-figure, i.e. Luke. Since AYITL saw the return of Jess (Milo Ventimiglia), it very well could be that Jess and Rory raise her baby together.

This is just one of the major questions left unanswered, and one that has caused fans to spiral in the nearly 10 years since the follow-up limited series premiered. Netflix, Prime Video, or any other streaming service is listening: hear our prayers and offer these ladies a deal they cannot refuse.
