A young nurse who weighed 117kg in 2017 after binge-eating up to 3,000 calories a day on fast food and desserts has revealed how she lost 50kg in two and a half years.

Having struggled with her weight from as early as she could remember, 25-year-old Charlotte Snelgrove, from South Australia, said the ‘turning point’ was when she had to weigh herself before having surgery to remove her tonsils.

‘I couldn’t believe what I saw on the scales – it shocked me. I was embarrassed and angry that I had let myself get to 117kg,’ she told FEMAIL.

‘Something had to change as I couldn’t fathom seeing that number again!’

To shed the weight and get her life back on track, Charlotte turned to Lite n’ Easy as the program seemed convenient while she was shift working.

Lite n’ Easy’s 1,500 calorie plan allowed Charlotte to control her portions and ultimately lose almost half her body weight.

‘My life has changed in every way possible; I’m 100 per cent more confident, feel healthier, happier and even found love,’ says Charlotte.

Charlotte said her excessive weight gain impacted her wellbeing both physically and mentally, as it became a daily burden.

‘Clothes were hard to find, airplane seatbelts gave me anxiety and I would overcompensate for the weight with materialistic looks, like fan tan, fake eyelashes and a full face of makeup,’ she said.

‘I learnt to build up a wall when people called me names and pretend like I didn’t care – but I did and it was like a dagger through the heart every time.’

Physically Charlotte said she felt ‘sluggish’, had minimal energy and regularly fell short of breath.

As a result, she wouldn’t exercise with friends in order to avoid embarrassment.

The program is also perfect for those who are time poor and don’t have time to cook every night of the week.

The menu is developed by dietitians and chefs to ensure the food is nutritionally balanced and portioned.

Initially Charlotte said the ‘biggest challenge’ was having to halve her calorie intake, as she often felt hungry.

But she pushed through, committed herself to the program and slowly the weight dropped off.

‘One of the biggest difficulties I didn’t expect was the mental strength that came with such a drastic transformation,’ she said.

‘When people start noticing your weight loss, they act different towards you and let me tell you, that does not go unnoticed.’

Today Charlotte makes healthy decisions when it comes to her diet, but still allows herself to enjoy a chocolate bar or pepperoni pizza on ‘cheat days’.

She understands how ‘everything needs to be in moderation’, rather than constantly choosing unhealthy food options.

‘Balance is key; I love fresher foods now and didn’t know salads could be made so delicious,’ she said.

‘Healthy food really is the best lifestyle, you feel good on the inside and look even better on the outside.’

She added how she enjoys going for long walks with friends and works up a sweat at the gym.

‘The key is to move, just get that body out there no matter what way you chose to do so.’

The ten-minute workout to boost your confidence:

Step 1: Loosen Up – Your body needs to be ready but relaxed

Prepare the body with a simple but effective power warm-up as follows:

2. Arm Circles – 10 on each arm

3. Jogging on the spot, bouncing on your toes – just like a boxer waiting to go in the ring – 20 seconds

Step 2: Let’s do it! The confidence-booster workout

1) Ground yourself – Sumo Squat x 10 reps

2) Amp it up! – Shadow Boxing (1 minute)

3) Feel powerful – Power pose

4) Breathe your way to winning – Deep breathing exercise

  • Take Deep Breaths – 4sec in, 4 sec hold and 4sec release – Repeat for 2 minutes
  • Free breathing – Imagine your success, what are you going to do well today, what are your priorities, what are you going to knock out the part

When asked what advice she would give to other young adults wanting to lose weight, Charlotte said to find the right diet and exercise routine that suits your lifestyle.

‘You have to really want to do it for yourself, not for anyone else,’ she said.

‘Be kind to yourself, it doesn’t happen overnight, some days are going to be hard, but I promise the good days make it all worthwhile.’

Charlotte added how losing weight is one of the best decisions she’s ever made in her life and is proud of what she had achieved.
