Man Empties Nursery after Learning That Wife Lied to Him about the Gender of Their Baby

He wanted a father figure – he wanted a bond with his dad. Unfortunately, he never got that and envisioned it with his future son.

His wife knew all about his issues. Having a son was his deep-rooted desire, and she wanted to give that to him.

When his wife told him he was pregnant, he was ecstatic. Finally, he was closer to having the son he’s always wanted.

The man had been on business trips during her first few pregnancy appointments. While these trips tired him out, they were essential.

He was the only one with work. As the family’s breadwinner, he wanted to do whatever it took to ensure his child didn’t experience what he did growing up.

In his place, his wife took her mother to attend the checkups instead. When he returned from one of his trips, she happily told him they were expecting a baby boy.

The man couldn’t be happier. Finally, his dream was about to come true! He and his son were going to have the connection he never had with his dad.

He was emotionally invested in his son and splurged on his things. He and his wife set up an all-blue nursery together, bought boy-themed clothes, and decided to name their son after his great-grandfather.

Everything was going smoothly for the couple until one day, his wife’s mom accidentally slipped that they were expecting a baby girl, not the boy they’d been preparing for.

The man was in disbelief. To him, it was as if his whole life crumbled because of his wife’s deception.

He confronted his wife, who admitted she knew it’d be a girl since the beginning. She thought that by lying about their child’s gender, she was protecting her husband’s feelings.

The man was livid. He was disappointed, devastated, and hurt. Worse, it made him think about his childhood and everything wrong with it:

His words hurt, and he knew there was no way he could repair his relationship with his mother-in-law after what he did. He regretted it right after but could no longer do anything about it.

Despite everything that happened, the man insisted that he loved his wife. However, he acted because of his deep-seated emotions and traumas.

He needed to figure out how he could repair their marriage. He felt lost and sought opinions online about what he was supposed to do.

Unfortunately for him, people blamed him for the entire situation. Others said that his insistence on having a boy made his wife decide to lie so he wouldn’t be disappointed.

Others confirmed he was overreacting by clearing out the nursery. They also slammed him for taking it out on his mother-in-law, who wanted to be there for her daughter.

Lastly, people felt bad for his unborn child. “What if you did have a boy, but he wasn’t as interested in this intense father-son relationship that you are craving? Can any real life father-son relationship actually even live up to the one in your head that is supposed to heal your past wounds?” one user commented.

“You need therapy immediately to deal with your issue. ANY healthy baby that is delivered earth-side is a miracle- no matter the gender,” another echoed.

The man no longer responded to any comments after his initial post. Instead of sympathy, he received messages asking him to fix himself rather than trying to fix his wife and child.
