We are eagerly awaiting Ariana Grande’s recent interview during her promotion for the musical Wicked. In the interview, the actress, who portrays Glinda in the highly anticipated movie adaptation, became visibly moved when Drew Barrymore surprised her with the original wand from Glinda’s character in The Wizard of Oz.
This heartwarming moment was captured on video and will be featured on Thursday’s (Dec. 5) episode of The Drew Barrymore Show, with a sneak peek shared on the show’s social media platforms on Dec. 3.
Barrymore shared, “I have something incredibly exciting and unique. It was once displayed at the Smithsonian Institution, and now it’s in private ownership. However, they graciously loaned it to us for this special moment,” before calling on her team, “Please bring out the original Glinda wand.”
Grande immediately placed her hand over her mouth in shock. “Are you serious right now?” she asked, seemingly beginning to tear up as a producer handed her the wand.
“Well, thank you guys. It’s been fun. Bye,” Grande jokingly said as she stood up and walked away with the cinematic artifact. “I’m kidding, I’m kidding, I’m kidding.”
The singer then asked Barrymore how she was able to “pull this off,” wondering if she had to “break in” to obtain the wand, which was used by Billie Burke, who played Glinda the Good Witch of the North in the 1939 film.
“I have to give credit to everyone on this show, because literally we were so excited about you coming here, we were like, ‘Let’s get the wand, let’s get [your grandmother] Nonna,’” Barrymore said, noting that Grande “looks so perfect” with the wand.
Like Grande, viewers were feeling all the feels in the comments section.
“This press tour has me crying every second. Pls let me rest,” one wrote under the video on Instagram, while another added, “That’s actually so sweet. Her genuine emotion came out, that’s really touching.”
A third person said, “You can even tell by the way she’s so carefully holding it and how she didn’t even wanna fully grab it at first how much this wand, and this role, and everything Wicked and Wizard of Oz means to Ariana,” while someone else commented, “I’m crying at every interview I see about this movie.”
