Wondering how Grant Ellis’ one-on-one dates went? Curious who snagged Grant’s group date rose? Who was at the center of Episode 4’s drama? Who self-eliminated before Scotland? And who else went home during The Bachelor Week 4?

Decider’s The Bachelor Season 29, Episode 4 recap breaks down all the highs, lows, drama, and romance in the February 17 episode.

After shooting some hoops with host Jesse Palmer, Grant met his 10 girlfriends in Madrid and took one special lady on a one-on-one date: Dina Lupancu. He and the 31-year-old attorney from Chicago, Illinois lived like the locals and explored Chinchón, Spain on foot. They played soccer with some local kids, got dance lessons in the street, and wrote wishes on a wish wall. Dina told cameras she’s “a little bit of an ice queen” but “can melt for the people who deserve it.” She started to thaw a bit on a rowboat ride, where she and Grant opened up about their shared love language — giving.

At dinner, the ice queen fully melted. Dina admitted that she’s very regimented, but likes that Grant brings out another side of her. She also explained that growing up with 10 siblings in a family of 13 was difficult because she rarely shared her feelings. Grant gave Dina the ultimate compliment by saying she reminded him of his strong mother, and Dina told him how manly it was that he saw her strength as a positivity rather than being intimidated by it.

When Dina questioned the seven-year relationship his sister said he was in, Grant admitted that he neglected his partner to pursue his career. He assured Dina that he understands what’s important to maintain a lasting love now and explained that he could “definitely” see her as somebody in his future.

Did Dina Get The Rose? You bet! Grant said that Dina “surpassed” his expectations and opened his eyes up to the idea of a 50/50 partnership.

Before the group flew to Spain, they woke up in the mansion and recounted “the prom from hell.” For those who need a refresher, Episode 3’s cocktail prom party had more drama than a high school dance after Carolina told Grant something Rose said, Grant confronted Rose, Rose apologized, then he returned to comfort Carolina. The ordeal took valuable time away from the rest of the girls, who felt that Carolina — fresh off a one-on-one date where she got a rose — made an incredibly selfish decision.

Ahead of the Episode 4 group date, Carolina complained to the group that despite her one-on-one time with Grant, she still didn’t feel she’s gotten to know him very well. So when Carolina, Alexe, Litia, Natalie, Rose, Parisa, Zoe, and Juliana were invited on the Madrid group date, she wasn’t thrilled to share Grant with anyone.

The group rode donkeys down to La Plaza Mayor de Chinchón and got lessons from a famous Matadora, Caren Calderon. After waving red capes while Grant ran a wheelbarrow (with a bull’s head attached) at them, the ladies changed into their Matadora suits for “the greatest sporting event in Bachelor history,” a mechanical bull riding competition. Jesse Palmer, Caren, and Spanish sports commentator Guillermo Castañares judged and timed the contestants. Zoe won some extra time with Grant ahead of the afterparty, and Grant hoped for a fun night — “hoped” being the operative word.

The night did have some high points — like Grant gifting rock-lover Parisa some rocks from Spain and he and Rose making progress after last week’s setback. His most memorable convo of the night was with Zoe, who broke down in tears while sharing why she’s closed off and difficult to read. She told Grant that she and her sister were adopted and grew up in a predominantly white area where she felt like “a black sheep.” After being told that Black women weren’t beautiful and dealing with abuse, Zoe said she “shut off” her emotions for most of her life and felt unworthy of love. Grant praised her vulnerability and deeply resonated with her struggles. It seemed like Zoe had the group rose date locked down, but before Grant could hand out the stem, more Carolina drama unfolded.

While sitting with her fellow contestants, Carolina opened up about her “mixed emotions” about the journey and “so many unanswered questions” about Grant. The fact that they were halfway through the journey (Sidenote: why is this season so short?!), she only had one date with Grant, and she felt like she barely knew him wasn’t sitting right with her — but her doubts weren’t sitting right with the women. Juliana pulled Carolina aside and told her that her words left a sour taste in everyone’s mouth. Carolina did not take the feedback well and headed back inside where others aired their frustrations with her behavior as well.

When Grant came in to hand out the rose, he clocked Carolina crying and pulled her away. She told Grant that Juliana questioned her intentions, and Grant told her to focus solely on the connection they share.

Who Got The Group Date Rose? No one! Though Grant and Carolina ended on a positive note, he felt too confused to hand out a rose. Juliana apologized to the women and felt horrible for causing Grant pain.

Grant, once again asking to Have Fun, invited Sarafiena on an especially nerve-wracking date that involved bungee jumping off a bridge. No big deal! Especially not for someone who’s scared of heights! The associate media director from New York did a wonderful job comforting Season 29’s leading man’s nerves, and the two successfully harnessed up, hugged tight, and fell off a bridge in the pouring rain. After sharing their upside-down Spider Man (or Seth Cohen) kiss, the two headed to dinner, where things got deep.

Grant told Sarafiena that when they kiss, he gets the sense that she’s hesitant to lean all the way in for fear of getting hurt. Turns out, she’s been hesitant to lay one on him because she was hyper aware that her mom would eventually be watching at home! The two bonded over their love for their moms, and Sarafiena shared that she didn’t have a dad in her life growing up. Grant told her he could relate and felt she was incredibly genuine, ready for, and capable of love. Sarafiena stressed just how strongly she felt about Grant, and the two went outside to share some passionate kisses in the dark. (Still, Sarafiena screamed “Sorry mom!” directly into the camera.)

Did Sarafiena Get The Rose? You bet! Grant said she would make a great wife and he was excited that their slow-burn caught fire.

Grant told his 10 remaining contestants that he had an incredible time in Spain. That said, since his group date gone wrong, his mind had been racing and he pulled Juliana aside to check in about Carolina. Juliana said that after his one-on-one date with Carolina, she seemed ungrateful and had an incredibly negative outlook on the Bachelor process, which was hard for the other girls to hear. It was hard for Grant to hear, too, so he confronted Carolina and questioned her doubts.

“I think it’s more natural for someone to have doubts when they’re first meeting someone than for someone to be like, ‘I’m ready to marry this man tomorrow,’” Carolina said. “If I’m concerned it’s because I take it seriously and I don’t want to mess this up or have a proposal that I’m not ready for…I want us to figure it out before it gets to that point.”

Grant understood, but was still hurt and asked that moving forward, she come to him with doubts rather than airing them to the women. When Carolina returned to the group, she broke down in tears and Dina comforted her while the other women struggled to move on from another night of “The Carolina Show.” Rose took the Carolina drama hard and feared her relationship with Grant couldn’t recover from the Episode 3 drama. After her much-teased “you did me fucking dirty” line, she broke down crying and decided to go home. She said goodbye to Grant and the rose ceremony commenced.

With Dina and Sarafiena safe, the Season 29 lead gave his first and final rose ceremony roses to Litia and Carolina respectively. Here are the women who went home during The Bachelor Season 29, Episode 4:

  • Natalie, 25, a Ph.D. student from Louisville, Ky.
  • Parisa, 29, a pediatric behavior analyst from Birmingham, Mich.
  • Rose, 27, a registered nurse from Chicago, Ill.
