Jerry Remy

Jerry Remy, Red Sox broadcaster and former Boston All-Star, died on 30 October 2021 following a long battle with lung cancer. He played for the California Angels from 1975 to 1977 and then spent seven seasons with the Red Sox. He lived his dream as a Red Sox player and beloved broadcaster with the team. 

Originally from Fall River, Massachusetts, Gerald Peter “Jerry” Remy was born on 8 November 1952 under the star sign Scorpio. He was of French Canadian descent. The late color commentator attended Somerset High School and Roger Williams University in Bristol, Rhode Island.

Dead, Cause of Death, and Funeral

The former player for the Boston Red Sox died Saturday night (30 October) at the age of 68. He had undergone repeated treatments for lung cancer since he was first diagnosed in 2008.

On 4 August, Remy had stepped away from his role as a NESN analyst for Red Sox games to undergo treatment for cancer. At the time, he told:

“as I’ve done before and will continue to do so, I will battle this with everything I have.”

Red Sox owner John Henry paid tribute to Remy’s death, saying:

“We are saddened by the loss of a beloved player, broadcaster, and 13-year cancer warrior. Jerry’s love and connection to baseball didn’t allow anything to stand between the game and him, including for many years cancer.”

His family members haven’t yet released any official statement about his funeral.

Professional Career and Net Worth

In 1975, Remy began his major league career with the California Angels, where he spent his first three seasons. He played second base for the Red Sox from 1978 to 1984. Overall, he hit .275 with 140 doubles, 7 home runs, 38 triples, and 399 RBIs.

In 1988, Remy joined the NESN booth and became a beloved broadcaster for the franchise.  He served as a color commentator for NESN’s Red Sox broadcasts until his death, only taking occasional time off for health issues. He also wrote a number of books on baseball and owned a number of restaurants.

The late sportscaster had made a massive fortune out of his professional career as a sportscaster and former player. According to Celebrity Net Worth, Remy had a whopping net worth of $15 million at the time of his death.

Married, Wife, and Children

Remy is now survived by his wife, Phoebe, and their three children. He shared two sons – Jared and Jordan – and a daughter, Jenna, with his beloved wife.

Remy’s son, Jared, was sentenced to life in state prison without the possibility of parole, for the fatal stabbing of his girlfriend, Jennifer Martel, in May 2014. Jared once worked for the Red Sox as a security guard.

His wife and kids have yet to release an official statement regarding his death.

The late broadcaster was born to Joe and Connie Remy. His father worked at Mason’s furniture, and his mother was a hairdresser.
