Last year, cities like San Francisco and New York had the same kind of law, which is why Kyrie Irving only played 29 games. Now, this whole issue seems to be settled south of the border, and the Toronto Raptors may be the only team for which the vaccine is mandatory to play.

The NBA is not the only league to implement this kind of rule. In Major League Baseball, the Toronto Blue Jays have fallen victim to the same fate, having recently traded for the services of Whit Merrifield, a non-vaccinated player.

This decision by the City of Toronto will not have as great an impact as one might think. Although there is not a complete list of non-vaccinated players, the NBA would like to remind that 97% of the athletes did reach out to receive the vaccine.

In addition to the famous case of Kyrie Irving, it is relevant to mention that of Matisse Thybulle, player of the 76ers. During the last playoffs, Thybulle had to stay at home during the games in the Queen City because he could not make the trip with the team.

Of course, this is all subject to change. Depending on the evolution of the coronavirus cases in the country, Toronto could lift the ban during the season, nothing is set in stone.
