A young man, aged 24, was found guilty by a jury in Michigan for fatally shooting his 8-year-old sister in their apartment’s living room because he felt she was disrespecting him.

Gyasi Stribling was convicted of first-degree murder for the death of Bailei Singleton in 2021, as stated by the Oakland County Prosecutor’s Office.

“Bailei Singleton should be alive today,” expressed Prosecutor Karen McDonald. “Her tragic murder deeply affected her family. It is unimaginable that a relative, especially an 8-year-old child, could be killed over a minor dispute within the confines of their own home. This case serves as a harsh reminder of how easily gun violence, as a public health crisis, can abruptly end a life.”

Police in Southfield, a suburb of Detroit, responded on Jan. 3, 2021, to the 12 North Apartments. Bailei was rushed to the hospital in critical condition and, days later, succumbed to her injuries.
