A shooting incident at a hospital in Michigan caused panic when a man allegedly attacked his co-worker. The reason behind the attack? The co-worker failed to invite the suspect to his father’s funeral. The suspect, identified as 21-year-old Robert Paljusevic, has been charged with serious offenses including assault with intent to murder, possession of a firearm, and carrying a concealed weapon. The violent episode occurred in the parking garage of Corewell Health Beaumont Troy Hospital near Detroit, prompting staff to alert the Troy police of an active shooter situation on Thursday morning around 7 a.m.
However, investigations quickly revealed that it was not a random active shooter situation but rather a targeted attack between two employees of the hospital. The victim, a 25-year-old male, was found with gunshot wounds in his arm and received urgent medical care at the hospital’s emergency department. Detectives pieced together the sequence of events and determined that Paljusevic allegedly fired his weapon multiple times at the victim while he was entering the parking garage. The victim was hit twice in the arm during the attack.

The victim positively identified Paljusevic as the assailant, leading to his prompt arrest at his residence in Macomb County, located nearby, approximately two hours after the shooting. The arrest put an end to the chaos and tension that had gripped the hospital and its surroundings. The incident shed light on a personal dispute that escalated into a violent and dangerous confrontation, highlighting the importance of managing and resolving conflicts in a peaceful and constructive manner to prevent such tragic events from recurring.
A Troy police detective laid out the agency’s case against the defendant in front of a judge on Sunday morning, local news outlets reported. The two had been buddies but the friendship soured after the victim did not invite Paljusevic to his father’s family-only funeral. Family members of the victim allegedly described Paljusevic as “possessive” of the victim with a “short fuse.”
Paljusevic attended a public viewing of the victim’s father and, according to the victim’s mother, had some choice words when he walked up to the casket, cops said.
“Your f—ing son would not invite me to meet you,” Paljusevic allegedly said.
After the funeral, cops say Paljusevic placed a video call to the victim and showed him urinating on funeral brochures.
“If I do see you outside in public, don’t be surprised if something happens,” Paljusevic allegedly said.
Cops said the defendant had worked for the hospital for about two years. He’s now in the Oakland County Jail without bond.
