The Department of Justice is recommending a 20-year prison term for Ryan Samsel, a member of the Pennsylvania Proud Boys. Samsel was heavily involved in the January 6th attack on the U.S. Capitol, being the first to breach its perimeter and leading the charge against law enforcement officers.

DOJ prosecutors emphasized the seriousness of Samsel’s actions and his lack of remorse as reasons for the lengthy sentence proposal. They also pointed out his history of violent criminal behavior, public promotion of false narratives, and expressed desire to attack the Capitol again as factors justifying the 240-month incarceration recommendation.
