A California dad who was convicted of torture after brutally beating his 4-year-old daughter was sentenced to life in prison.
An aspiring rapper named Tekquan Alexander, 28, was convicted on Nov. 12 of torture, assault, and corporal injury to a child. These violent acts occurred in 2021 and resulted in his daughter sustaining severe injuries, leaving her in a vegetative state. The Ventura County District Attorney’s Office reported that Alexander physically assaulted his daughter by punching her and using a belt and amplifier cable to beat her for wetting the bed. He even deceived the girl’s mother by claiming the child had fainted while in a timeout.
The Ventura County District Attorney’s Office confirmed the sentencing on Dec. 13, which they noted was also the little girl’s birthday. Deputy District Attorney Rikole Kelly, who prosecuted the case, said in a news release that “while no punishment can undo the lifetime of challenges she will face, her family knowing her perpetrator could spend his life behind bars is a small gift of justice.”
The release also stated that the victim is still paralyzed and in a vegetative state, and she continues to require round-the-clock medical care.

The tragic story was shared by the girl’s mother, Keyonna Watts, who appeared on The Shade Room in 2022 to discuss her daughter’s case. She said she first learned about her daughter’s condition from a detective, who told her that the little girl was “bleeding from the brain.” The DA’s office listed the injuries that the girl had been diagnosed with during her stay at Children’s Hospital in Los Angeles, including “a brain injury, subdural hematoma, spinal compression, bone fractures, and countless contusions and abrasions.”
When she spoke to Alexander on a FaceTime call, he claimed that the girl was punished for wetting the bed and was standing in “time-out” when she “passed out.”
