In Florida, a young couple has been arrested for allegedly causing severe injuries to an infant under their care, leading to the baby needing emergency surgery to fix a damaged skull and bleeding brain, as reported by authorities in the state.

The Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office has charged Shona M. Hochsprung, 22, and Alexander M. Ransom, 24, with child neglect resulting in serious bodily harm.

After a brief investigation into the extent of the infant’s injuries and the couple’s questionable justifications, both suspects were taken into custody on Tuesday.

The child recently made it out of a surgery considered a success and is expected to live — but with diminished capacity. Authorities say the unidentified child victim is facing a long recovery process and is likely to suffer “significant medical issues” for the duration of their life.
