A Florida man admitted to law enforcement that he stabbed his girlfriend multiple times and has accepted a plea deal for second-degree murder. As part of this agreement, he has been given a 60-year prison sentence for his actions. The incident, which led to the tragic death of the victim, highlights the severity of domestic violence and its consequences.

Domestic violence is a serious issue that affects individuals and families across the country. It is essential for individuals in abusive situations to seek help and support to break the cycle of violence. By speaking out and getting assistance from resources such as shelters, hotlines, or counseling services, individuals can protect themselves and their loved ones from harm.

Steven Joseph Cozens, 27, was arrested on Aug. 28, 2022, and charged with second-degree murder after the body of his 26-year-old girlfriend (who was only identified as “Jennifer” under Florida’s Marsy’s Law) was found wrapped in a sheet under the bed in a room at an America’s Best Value Inn located in Bradenton. Her body was found by the housekeeping staff, who called police. Cozens was read his Miranda rights after being found by police near the scene. According to reporting by WFLA, a local NBC affiliate, he confessed to police to killing his girlfriend, saying that he stabbed her “a lot.”
