A man allegedly told police he kidnapped a woman because he needed the money, but his reported behavior went beyond just greed.
“He smirked a lot, he giggled, and, you know, was almost proud of what he did,” police Sgt. Rick Alexander of Haltom City, Texas, told Dallas Fox affiliate KDFW about the suspect, Eduardo Javier Ordonez Godoy, 35.
The man threatened the 22-year-old victim that he would “sell her organs” or “prostitute her,” according to court documents obtained by the outlet.
“He claims he’s just a thief. He wants money,” Alexander said. “But, you know, in this case, clearly he went beyond that and brought a firearm into it.”
The 22-year-old woman was walking to her vehicle at Acacia Apartments at 4:45 a.m. on Tuesday when Godoy abducted her at gunpoint, according to Haltom City police.
“The victim was then driven approximately 22 miles to the Camden Apartments at 3900 Grapevine Mills Parkway in Grapevine, where she was briefly restrained,” cops wrote. “She managed to escape and summon help, while the suspect fled in her vehicle.”
On Christmas, Oklahoma City police found the stolen vehicle in a parking lot. Godoy was inside, and officers took him into custody, authorities said.
“Evidence connected to the reported offense was recovered at the scene,” they wrote.
Police reportedly say that Godoy, who is from Honduras, had committed a similar crime and was deported before. He currently faces an ICE detainer. Godoy is charged in Texas with aggravated kidnapping and aggravated robbery. In Oklahoma, he faces charges including unauthorized use of a vehicle and use of a firearm while committing a felony.
