A Georgia grand jury recently issued indictments against a mother for second-degree murder and cruelty to children following the death of her infant son, who suffered burns from a hair dryer.

The incident took place when the Coweta Sheriff’s Office received a report of an infant experiencing cardiac arrest at a residence on Kildare Court in Newnan, located about 40 miles southeast of Atlanta, on November 9, 2023, as detailed in an incident report acquired by Law&Crime. Upon arrival, a deputy encountered the mother, identified as 31-year-old Morgan Creel, who was standing at the back door. Creel informed the deputies that her son, later identified as Carsynn Creel, was in the back bedroom. The deputy discovered the unresponsive boy with his onesie partially lowered.

As the deputy performed CPR on Carsynn he noticed the boy “appeared severely burnt as well as discolored on the right side of his body,” the affidavit said. Creel allegedly said she was trying to warm the boy’s feet so she turned on a hair dryer. But then she fell asleep. When she awoke, her son was unresponsive and she called 911.

An indictment obtained by Atlanta Fox affiliate WAGA says Creel put her son through “cruel and excessive physical and mental pain by leaving a blow dryer on and blowing heated air near said child while said accused was passed out under the influence of a controlled substance.” In the incident report, investigators said they found a marijuana smoking apparatus on the back porch.
