In Michigan, a 24-year-old mother will be imprisoned for less than a year for the tragic death of her baby son, who drowned when she left him unattended in a bathtub for 20 minutes while chatting on the phone.

The judge in Kent County has decided that Olivia Elizabeth Miller must spend one year in a state correctional facility for the drowning incident involving her 8-month-old, Asher Johnson. It was noted that Miller had already served 246 days prior to the sentencing.

Following her plea of no contest to involuntary manslaughter last October, Miller faced sentencing this Wednesday. By agreeing to a deal, the prosecution dropped a charge of second-degree child abuse that she had been initially accused of.
