Maine police have arrested a man for assaulting his girlfriend after he cut his own face with a razor blade — allegedly in an attempt to blame her.
Aric Houghton, 30, was initially arrested on Jan. 7 after his girlfriend accused him of domestic violence. The charges filed against him included domestic violence aggravated assault, obstructing the report of a crime, and criminal mischief. Following his arrest, Houghton was released. However, on Jan. 8, police received another call, this time from Houghton himself, alleging that his girlfriend had assaulted him.
But when police questioned his girlfriend, she claimed he was lying — and that he cut his face himself.
A statement from the Bangor Police Department revealed that Houghton had a key to his girlfriend’s apartment and had returned there after being released from jail. Houghton reported to the police that during this visit, his girlfriend had attacked him with a razor blade, resulting in him sustaining several bleeding cuts on his face. Subsequently, Houghton was taken to a hospital for medical attention.
Conversely, the woman informed the police that Houghton not only assaulted her again but also self-inflicted cuts to his face with a razor blade. According to her account, he threatened to have her arrested for assaulting him and expressed concerns that he might return to harm her further.
The woman was brought to the hospital to be treated for injuries she allegedly sustained at the hands of Houghton during the Jan. 8 attack.
Houghton was arrested for the second time in two days by police on Jan. 8 and slapped with another charge of domestic violence aggravated assault, as well as violation of conditions of release. He remains in custody at the Penobscot County Jail. A bond amount did not appear in jail records.
