A Massachusetts woman accused of stabbing her lover on his houseboat now faces new charges, to which she pleaded not guilty.

24-year-old Nora Nelson was at a court appearance last Friday for being charged with murder in the death of her boyfriend, 65-year-old Boston attorney Joseph Donahue. The Boston police were called to Donahue’s houseboat in the city’s Charleston neighborhood to check on his well-being back in February. When they arrived, Nelson greeted them and provided officers with conflicting stories and a false name.

After further investigation, officers discovered Donahue’s body on the boat. His body was found wrapped in a carpet that was bound with duct tape and connected to dumbbells using a jump rope.

During the court hearing, prosecutor Rita Muiz provided detailed information about the events surrounding Donahue’s death. Muiz stated that when officers first encountered Nelson on February 2nd around 10:43 p.m., she was accompanied by one of Donahue’s dogs, a golden retriever. When asked to secure the dog to continue their conversation, Nelson initially complied but was later observed inside the boat, through a door slit, appearing to be cleaning or picking up various items.

Muiz stated that when Nelson finally came back to speak to police, including being asked where Donahue was, she reportedly gave officers “inconsistent, contradictory, and frankly nonsensical answers” and told them her name was “Casey.”

Officers then entered the houseboat where they did a sweep of the premises, a search that culminated in the discovery of Donahue’s body outside the glass doors of his bedroom.
