A woman refuted the claims of hurling a brick through her ex-partner’s window on their first date, but the authorities in Lee County, Florida, revealed that surveillance footage captured her in the act.
“I live here,” Sabrina Deanna Coyne, 34, told deputies in body camera video dated the night of Jan. 24.
According to court documents, the ex-partner mentioned that Coyne had vacated the house when they separated about half a year earlier. The property records from the county appraiser identified him as the sole proprietor of the house. Upon investigation, officials discovered no women’s attire or any signs of Coyne receiving mail at the premises.
The video, heavily edited by the sheriff’s office, shows the first deputy finding Coyne at the front door.
“I’m trying to get in touch with my ex-husband,” Coyne said.
According to documents, the man said they had never been married.
The ex was sleeping on his couch in the living room, waking up to the sound of loud banging on the windows and front doors, documents stated.
“Shortly thereafter, he heard a loud noise indicating glass breaking coming from the front living room,” authorities wrote.
On video, a deputy asked Coyne if she had been banging on the door.
“I banged on the door because he wouldn’t let me in,” she said.
Despite her denial of throwing any object at the window, the sheriff’s office highlighted an edited version of the surveillance video, clearly showing Coyne picking up an item from the ground and tossing it, all while holding a lit object, likely a cellphone, in her other hand.
“I did not break the window,” she said on body camera.
The sheriff’s office described the item as a “first date” brick. A close up picture from authorities showed that it commemorated a jet skiing tip from June 14, 2020.
Coyne was arrested for criminal mischief and throwing a deadly missile into an occupied dwelling. She posted a $7,500 bond on Jan. 26 and is scheduled for an arraignment set for Feb. 24.
