The Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office investigate an alleged double murder and attempted suicide at a home in St. Petersburg, Florida, on April 12 (WTSP/YouTube).
A Florida man stabbed and killed his girlfriend and her mother before he tried to take his own life, authorities say.
Kirk Hysell Jr., 41, stands accused of two counts of first-degree murder in the deaths of his 34-year-old girlfriend Christina Donzero and her 75-year-old mom Betti “Suzanne” Thevenet Donzero in St. Petersburg.

The Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office said in a press release that Hysell’s daughter contacted 911 around 10 a.m. Saturday after her father called her to say he had committed the murders. Deputies responded to the 5200 block of 108th Street North and found Christina Donzero in a bedroom suffering from multiple stab wounds. They located her mother in the garage suffering from the same injuries. Medical personnel pronounced both victims dead at the scene.
Hysell was in the bathroom with several self-inflicted injuries, cops said. Paramedics took him to the hospital. He allegedly admitted to both murders and said he “initially planned to kill the whole family,” deputies said.
“He also stated he planned to kill his other family members and if he got out, he would ‘do it again,”” deputies wrote.
The suspect and victims all lived together at the home, cops said.
A motive for the slayings has not yet been publicly released. A probable cause arrest affidavit was not immediately available. Hysell remains at the hospital and will be transported to the Pinellas County Jail when he’s released.
The investigation is ongoing.
