Chongya Weldon was arrested on Sept. 20 for allegedly throwing water at a man’s face, with her reaction being more sarcastic than using curse words.
“I love it, this is so amazing!” she said as three officers handcuffed her on the patio of her home. “Get off my f—ing hair!”
Prior to the arrest, on Sept. 14, the man who ran a plant shop informed the police in Champaign, Illinois, about Weldon’s actions. After tracking her down on Sept. 20, officers confronted her about the incident.
She questioned why they were there.
“I’m just here to talk to you about it,” an officer answered.
They soon told her to step outside.
She refused. “No,” she repeated, crying.
“I am not f—ing doing this!” she said.
During the confrontation, Weldon tried to shift the blame onto the man, claiming that he was the one who attacked her. However, the body camera footage showed the alleged victim naming two customers who witnessed the water-throwing incident.
During the Sept. 20 confrontation with police, Weldon claimed the arrest was “unlawful” and that officers were hurting her.
“Stop resisting,” the officer answered.
“For throwing a cup of water?” she answered, incredulous.
“And kneeing me in the groin,” the officer said.
“Oh, because I’m being f—ing assaulted by you now,” she said. “Everybody gets to f—ing assault me, and I’m getting to go to jail. This is so amazing. I love my life. I love this f—ing community. You guys are so good at doing your f—ing jobs.”
“I will. Don’t f—ing worry,” she said.
They eventually placed her in a police vehicle.
“Do you guys take everyone who pours water on people to jail?” she said. “Can I have the statistics of that?”
“It’s battery,” an officer answered.
“It’s not,” she retorted. “Can I have your f—in–”
The officer then shut the door on her.
Record records show that Weldon is charged with resisting an officer. A hearing is scheduled for Jan. 16, 2025.
