A Louisiana woman was charged with the shooting death of her ex-boyfriend along with two men police say she allegedly recruited to kill him.
An updated indictment was submitted on June 5 concerning the tragic incident in January that resulted in the death of Jonathan Brookin, a 32-year-old father of five. The police disclosed that Brookin was fatally shot by three men during a confrontation involving his ex-girlfriend, Subrina Honore, who is also 32 years old. The altercation apparently stemmed from a dispute over the paternity of Honore’s baby, which she alleged was fathered by Brookin. Reports from court documents revealed that Honore had made threatening remarks towards Brookin on social media, including a post on the day of his demise that contained hostile language.

According to official records, Brookin was at the residence of a female acquaintance on January 27, accompanied by her two young children aged 5 and 6. The friend recounted to authorities that Honore arrived at the house around 6 p.m., evidently upset about a birth certificate related to the child she claimed to share with Brookin.
The female friend recounted that Brookin was situated in the garage with its door ajar while she was in a different section of the house. She overheard a heated exchange between Brookin and another woman, later identified as Honore. Detective Ryan Vaught from the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office mentioned during a court proceeding in February that Brookin possibly did not have possession of the birth certificate in question.
Vaught also told the court that the woman and Brookin asked Honore to leave several times, and Honore reportedly refused. At that point, Vaught stated, the woman said that she saw two men — including Arthur Thomas, 31 — get out of a nearby car, both of them carrying guns. The woman ran inside the house to hide with her children.
The woman reportedly told police that after the gunfire was finished, she observed Brookin on the ground, bleeding. He was later pronounced dead at the scene.
Further investigation into the shooting revealed that there were allegedly shots fired from three different people, Vaught testified. Authorities believe that Brookin also fired his rifle in self-defense before he was fatally shot in the head.
Honore reportedly told investigators that Brookin fired first. After the gunfire broke out, Honore reportedly fled the scene with Thomas and the second alleged gunman.
Vaught testified that Honore had reportedly tapped Thomas to help her shake down Brookin for the birth certificate. Honore also reportedly admitted to getting in touch with the second alleged gunman.
At the time of the alleged shooting, Brookin’s sister told Nola.com that Honore “had been threatening him all week long.”
Honore and Thomas were arrested the day after Brookin’s death and charged with second-degree murder and obstruction of justice. Also arrested were Jatary Joseph, 32, and Jjaun Jasmin, 34, who were charged with the same crimes, but police did not provide details on their roles in connection to Brookin’s death.
