A Massachusetts man is said to have attacked his mother’s boyfriend after a long-standing feud escalated into a violent confrontation, as reported by the family of the victim.

Authorities from the Middleborough Police Department have confirmed the arrest of Andrew Horsman, 41, on the charge of murdering 66-year-old Paul Pomerleau. Upon responding to multiple emergency calls on Sunday evening at about 8 p.m., reporting a disturbance in a residential Middleborough area, the police found Pomerleau with “multiple stab wounds.” He was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased.

Horsman’s mother was in a long-term relationship with Pomerleau, and family told local news outlets that the two men had been engaged in a feud.

Allegedly, Horsman and Pomerleau were engaged in an argument just before the reported stabbing incident. The police mentioned the presence of several witnesses to the altercation, and relatives informed local ABC affiliate WCBV that a long-standing dispute between Horsman and his mother’s partner had come to a head over the weekend.

Local CBS affiliate spoke to Jeff Burr, a neighbor who said he knew Pomerleau for “30 years” and told the outlet, “I’ll tell you, he was like a gentle giant. He was a great guy. He’d give you the shirt off his back. You know, he really would.”
