Colt made his debut on the TLC franchise during season 6 of the flagship series, 90 Day Fiancé, with his now ex-wife Larissa Dos Santos Lima. Their split played out on season 4 of the TLC spinoff 90 Day Fiancé: Happily Ever After? After their divorce was finalized in April 2019, Larissa and Colt both returned for season 5 of 90 Day Fiancé: Happily Ever After? where they each documented their journeys back into the dating scene.
Vanessa made her debut on 90 Day Fiancé: Happily Ever After? season 5 as a friend in Colt’s story line with his then-girlfriend, Jess Caroline. Jess and Colt’s nasty split played out on the show, after she accused him of cheating on him with Vanessa. During the HEA? season 5 tell-all, Colt admitted to having sex with Vanessa while he was still in a relationship with Jess.
They made their debut as a couple on season 1 of the discovery+ spinoff 90 Day: The Single Life. Colt originally joined as a single and for the first half of the season, he documented his attempt at dating again. While he went on a speed dating outing and also had another date with another woman, Colt realized that the only person he wanted to be with was Vanessa.
Vanessa was hesitant to start a relationship with Colt because she had just went through a divorce with her first husband and she also felt that since Colt cheated on Jess with her that he wouldn’t be a good boyfriend. However, after some convincing, Vanessa eventually agreed to be Colt’s girlfriend.
The Las Vegas native didn’t take long to take his romance to the next level with Vanessa. During a romantic trip, Colt got down on one knee and proposed to Vanessa. When they returned for the season 1 tell-all, Colt announced that he and Vanessa eloped. In Touch confirmed that Colt and Vanessa tied the knot in Reno, Nevada, in February 2021.
When season 2 of 90 Day: The Single Life premiered in November 2021, Colt and Vanessa returned as part of the story line for Colt’s mom and Vanessa’s mother-in-law. Debbie shared her journey in the dating scene after being single for several years following the death of her husband and Colt’s father, Harley Johnson, on the show. But it was their family drama that played out on the season 2 tell-all when Colt and Vanessa revealed they were separated and living apart due to Debbie’s interference in their marriage.
“I moved out,” Vanessa told host Shaun Robinson on the TLC special which aired in January 2022. She claimed that Debbie “is dependent” on her son and constantly trying to meddle in his life. “I’m tired of being under her roof,” Vanessa added, as the couple had lived with Debbie throughout their relationship.
Vanessa also noted that she didn’t sign up for a “part-time” husband when questioned about whether she would move back into the house if Debbie wasn’t there.
However, it seems like while they were living apart, Vanessa and Colt’s marriage is still going strong. In a clip from the Monday, May 9 episode of 90 Day: Diaries, Colt and Vanessa shared an update on their relationship.
“We’ve been married about 10 months now,” Vanessa said in their joint confessional, which means their footage was filmed December 2021. “I’ve been staying at my cousin’s house for the past month.”
Colt explained that he spends the day at his mother’s home and then spends the night with his wife. Colt said that he hasn’t put his “best foot forward” in his marriage with Vanessa and admitted to “coddling” his mother while “taking advantage” of his wife’s patience.
Vanessa said she felt more “freedom” at her cousin’s home and she complained that Debbie would “meddle” too much in their relationship and hover and criticize her as she did simple tasks around the home, like cooking breakfast. She admitted that she and Colt “never discussed” how married life would look before they tied the knot. She assumed they would move out of Debbie’s home into their own place, but Colt didn’t think about moving.
“If I could go back and change anything,” she said, “I would probably really discuss our future before getting married.”
It looks like fans will have to tune in to see if Colt and Vanessa are able to work past their issues.
