Just because The Vampire Diaries is over doesn’t mean the offscreen romances between costars are.
Arielle Kebbel and Zach Roerig have recently made headlines as the newest couple to emerge from the popular CW series. Fans caught a sweet moment between them at a fan convention where Roerig, who portrayed Matt, surprised Kebbel, known as Lexi, with flowers before sealing the moment with a kiss.
“I love a couple 🥹 ❤️ The ultimate romantic,” read a translated Instagram post from an attendee, to which Kebbel replied, “❤️❤️❤️.”
While their romance may be new to the public eye, Kebbel, and the 40-year-old Roerig seemed to have rekindled their connection while working together on the set of a Hallmark movie scheduled for release in 2023, Love in the Great Smoky Mountains: A National Park Romance, where they portrayed love interests.
It’s not uncommon for co-stars on The Vampire Diaries to find love off-screen. The show had a reputation for fostering romances among its cast members, such as the well-known couples of Nina Dobrev and Ian Somerhalder, as well as Paul Wesley and Phoebe Tonkin, during its peak.
The Vampire Diaries came to an end in 2017, but the franchise has continued with spinoffs including The Originals and Legacies. Off screen, The Vampire Diaries has inspired more long-lasting romance between couples such as Joseph Morgan and Persia White, who have been married since 2014.
More recently, Danielle Campbell and Colin Woodell celebrated more than five years of dating. There’s also Candice King and Steven Krueger, who also started dating after they attended the same cast conventions for the show following her divorce from Joe King.
“Anytime I’m walking around with Candice, it’s always like, ‘Oh my God Caroline!’ And then they do a double take and they’re like, ‘Oh, right. yeah. And what was your character’s name again? From The Originals?’ I’m like, ‘Yep, that was me,’” Krueger, 35, who played Josh on The Originals, joked during an exclusive interview with Us Weekly in February. “Yellowjackets is a little bit more in the zeitgeist right now and at the top of people’s minds. It’s definitely Yellowjackets at the moment.”
Krueger hinted that he wasn’t ruling out an onscreen collaboration with his girlfriend since they didn’t share the screen during their TVD days.
“It’d be really fun. We’re not the kind of people that are super precious about, like, ‘Oh, I need my space. I need to work and focus and all this,” he said about how he and King “would crush it” as costars. “I’m sure that’d be a great time. If you want to write a movie for us, by all means, go for it.”
Krueger continued: “We joked around about it. Part of the beauty of this industry is you never know what’s going to happen. We do have a lot of the same friends who are producers and writers so I’m sure that at some point somewhere down the road, that’s definitely a possibility.”
