Jeremy Strong raised eyebrows with his commitment to method acting — and not all of his Succession costars were on board.
The popular HBO series, which debuted in 2018, follows a rich family as they vie for power over their father’s business as he faces declining health. Strong, who portrays Logan’s (Brian Cox) likely successor Kendall, surprised audience members when his dedication to the character became the subject of a feature in The New Yorker.
His fellow actors, who have won Golden Globes, appeared displeased with Strong’s conduct when the cameras were not rolling. In his defense, Strong explained that his approach might be seen as “challenging” by others, stating, “Sometimes, there has to be space for essential toughness.”
Following the negative feedback, Strong criticized the article as a breach of his trust. The Selma actor confessed that his co-stars’ remarks about his fondness for method acting were hurtful to him.
“A lot of that is just things that are presented out of context or with a certain agenda,” he told The Hollywood Reporter that same month. “I know what everybody said, and there was an angle and a narrative that was being presented. Which is not to say that there was never friction between my costars. We’re a family in every sense of the word. But foundationally, there’s deep respect and even love.”
