Following his recent hospitalization, David Beckham got out and about when he attended Wimbledon with Maria Sharapova.
“Let the (Wimbledon) games begin 🎾🥳,” Sharapova, 38, wrote via Instagram on Monday, June 30, alongside a selfie of her and Beckham, 50.
The ex-professional soccer player was out in public just a few days after his wife, Victoria Beckham, posted a picture on Instagram Story of him in a hospital bed with his arm in a sling.
“Get well soon, daddy,” Victoria, 51, captioned the photo of David smiling at the camera while wearing a hospital band.
Victoria did not mention the reason for David’s hospital admission, but according to Us Weekly, he had surgery to fix a broken wrist sustained during a match between England and South Africa back in 2003.
David also made headlines earlier this month after he was awarded a knighthood by King Charles III, which he noted was “a truly humbling honor.”
In a statement made in June, the athlete expressed his gratitude for being honored. He talked about his East London upbringing where his family instilled a deep sense of pride in being British. Playing for the British soccer team and contributing to the community brought him immense joy. He mentioned feeling fortunate for the fulfilling work he gets to do and being acknowledged for it. The recognition was overwhelming for him, and he was proud to share the emotional moment with his family.
While David’s knighthood is exciting news for his family, it also comes amid reports that there is ongoing drama within the Beckham clan, with son Brooklyn Beckham and his wife, Nicola Peltz, reportedly distancing themselves from David and Victoria. (David and Victoria share kids Brooklyn, 26, Romeo, 22, Cruz, 20, and Harper, 13.)
The rift between the family allegedly started from drama between Nicola, 30, and Victoria at Brooklyn and Nicola’s wedding in 2022. Tensions continued to rise after Brooklyn and Nicola skipped David’s 50th birthday party in May and seemingly ignored his recent knighthood.
Earlier this month, a source told Us that David and Victoria “went from being sad and devastated to now accepting it and realizing there is nothing they can do.”
“They are done speaking about it,” the insider noted. “They view it as the way it is now. The ball is in Brooklyn’s court if he wants to make up.”
