Hip-Hop star Drake‘s latest million-dollar gamble didn’t pay off, and he thinks Justin Bieber is to blame.
The rapper placed a substantial bet on the Toronto Maple Leafs only to see his hopes crushed, leading him to suspect that a pop star’s unexpected presence at the game might have jinxed him.
Drake is no stranger to sports betting and has won and lost heavily on a variety of events, including the Super Bowl and UFC matches.

The Rapper Blamed The ‘Bieber Curse’ For His Betting Loss

For years, Drake has been known for his involvement in high-stakes gambling, sometimes wagering as much as $2 million on his predictions.
While this form of gambling has delivered both victories and defeats for the rapper in the past, fortune did not favor him when he staked $1 million on the Toronto Maple Leafs triumphing over the Florida Panthers during the weekend.
Instead of taking responsibility for the incorrect forecast, Drake has attributed his loss to singer Justin Bieber, who unexpectedly showed up to root for the Maple Leafs.

Taking to his Instagram Story, Drake wrote, “Bieber curse” as the reason why the Leafs suffered a massive 6-1 defeat to their opponents.
His remark appeared to be a way of deflecting attention from the narrative of the well-known “Drake Curse,” which is a superstition that any sports team or athlete who interacts with the rapper is doomed to perform poorly in their next match.

The Rapper Posted His Bets On His Instagram Story

Prior to the loss, Drake had posted the bets he made on the Maple Leafs on his Instagram story.
In the first bet, the rapper placed a straight win wager on the Maple Leafs to defeat the Florida Panthers, including overtime and penalties. This implies that the bet would still count as a win if the Maple Leafs had achieved a win in overtime and penalties.
According to the Daily Mail, the wager carried odds of 2.13, with a $1 million stake for an estimated payout of $2,130,000.
The second bet was a winning margin precision that required the Toronto Maple Leafs to win by exactly two goals. The wager, which has significantly higher odds at 8.00, was assigned a $250,000 stake by the rapper. If successful, it would have yielded a payout of $2,000,000.

Social Media Users Troll Drake Over His Loss

On X, several netizens poked fun at Drake over his massive failed stake on the Maple Leafs and his deflection of the blame.
One wrote, “The Drake Curse is Real,” while another commented, “Isn’t that the pot calling the kettle black?”
“Maybe he cursed them by betting a million on them lol but seriously he should go seek an MHA specialist thinking the Leafs would win,” a third user remarked.
A fourth individual commented, “This is on him lol! Every time he drops big bucks on Toronto teams, they have lost! This loss is on him lol!
Another netizen remarked, “It’s the Drake curse. Every time he bets on a team, they lose horribly. Look back through history, I guarantee you every team he’s bet on, they have lost.

Drake Has Had A Mixed History Of Winning And Losing Sports Bets

Earlier in the year, Drake dropped $210,000 on the Baltimore Ravens to win outright against the Pittsburgh Steelers and on star quarterback Lamar Jackson to score a touchdown.
While the Ravens eventually won the match with a dominant 28-14 scoreline, Jackson failed to secure a touchdown, resulting in the loss of the parlay bet.
Late last year, Drake also lost $355,000 after betting on legendary boxer Mike Tyson to beat influencer Jake Paul in a boxing match.
The rapper’s $500,000 wagers on the Dallas Mavericks and the Edmonton Oilers to win the Larry O’Brien Trophy and Stanley Cup, respectively, also ended in a loss last June.
Fortunately for Drake, many of his bets have resulted in massive wins. His November wager during UFC 309 on Jon Jones to knock out Stipe Miocic earned him a $504,000 profit. He also won a bet last July in the T20 World Cup on India to beat Pakistan.

The Rapper Plans To Stay Unmarried

While Drake is big on sports betting, he doesn’t intend to take risks when it comes to marriage.
According to Page Six, He discussed his decision to remain unmarried so far and said the idea of marriage is from “ancient times.”
The “Hotline Bling” rapper said, “I don’t know. It seems like a thing of, like, ancient times or something. I think I will eventually. I don’t know, I don’t think I can offer somebody what they’d be looking for. Just consistency. I think my life, my work, is my priority.”
When Althoff speculated that Drake’s decision not to get married was because he wanted to keep “sleeping around,” he immediately shut it down.
The “Passionfruit” rapper explained that it’s because he can’t be consistent or dedicated to a relationship “at this stage” of his life and career. He said he doesn’t “wanna disappoint someone.”
