Ellen DeGeneres has become a whole different woman after relocating from America to England — and that includes her hair color.
The 67-year-old comedian showcased her new hairstyle in a video shared on Instagram on May 4. Her typically blonde hair was now a dark gray color, a departure from her usual look.
In the video, DeGeneres can be seen attempting to operate a lawn mower on the extensive property she shares with her wife, Portia de Rossi. The caption of the post read, “Portia thought it would be fun to film my first time on the mower. She was right.”
The clip begins with DeGeneres revealing the start of her lawn mowing adventure and shows her successfully driving the mower for a while. However, the video takes a comical turn when she encounters difficulty trying to push the mower up a steep hill towards the end.
In the video, the former Ellen DeGeneres Show host wore a casual sweatshirt, jeans and wellies a.k.a. rain and garden-approved boots.
DeGeneres’ signature blonde pixie became synonymous with the former talk show host over the past few decades.
“You may notice my hair is a little bit blonder today than usual and a little bit shorter than usual,” DeGeneres revealed during an April 2019 episode of The Ellen DeGeneres Show. “That’s ‘cause I had my hair done over the weekend. And by the weekend, I mean the entire weekend. When you have short hair, you have to color it often because my hair grows really fast. I’m constantly coloring it. Some days it’s a different tone.”
The Finding Dory star’s hair color, however, has been getting progressively darker since she and de Rossi, 52, moved from California to the rural area of Cotswolds in November 2024.
At that time, DeGeneres was spotted with a short, brunette hairstyle while out with her spouse while visiting the Farmer’s Dog pub in the English countryside. She was also seen at Soho Farmhouse in the nearby area.
“She was with two female friends walking from the car park towards the farm buildings where the clubhouse is — we passed on a stone bridge over a stream,” an eyewitness exclusively told Us Weekly in November 2024. “She was dressed in a country casual way. She was super understated, and no one was really paying much attention to her … but then you just don’t expect to see Ellen there as it’s more a haunt of U.K. celebrities.”
Earlier this year, DeGeneres appeared to be letting her locks go gray when she briefly returned to the States. She was photographed in Montecito, California, in January sporting a more natural hairstyle.
De Rossi’s blonde hair has seemingly stayed the same since they moved, according to recent social media posts.
