The pricing initiative arrives amid the release of several highly anticipated summer blockbusters, but you won’t be able to get the deal every day.
WASHINGTON — Headed to the movies this summer? If you go during the middle of the week, you can save some money.
AMC Theatres has revealed a new weekly summer promotion where movie tickets will be half price on Wednesdays. This means that in addition to the existing discount day, customers can now enjoy reduced ticket prices twice a week at the popular movie chain.
Starting from July 9, AMC cinemas nationwide will offer 50% off tickets for adult Stubs reward members. This new offer coincides with the release of highly anticipated movies like Marvel’s “Fantastic Four,” James Gunn’s “Superman,” and Jurassic World: Rebirth” premiering in early July.
While the discount is a great deal, AMC clarified that specific films and holiday periods might not be included in the promotion. Although the duration of the discount period was not revealed, AMC expressed that if the initiative is successful, they aim to continue offering discounted tickets at all their theaters across the United States in the future.
Additional charges may apply for premium formats such as IMAX and Dolby Cinema, but the 50% discount will still be applied to the base ticket price.
“Now, we also are pleased to make moviegoing more affordable, with our new ‘50% Off Wednesdays’ effort,” AMC Chairman and CEO Adam Aro said in a statement. “Realistically, we could not afford to have made this change to our ticket pricing strategy until the box office showed true signs of sustained recovery. But in April and now in May, the box office has been booming, and the remainder of 2025 appears poised to continue that upward box office trend.”
AMC Theatres, which has about 900 locations worldwide, introduced Discount Tuesdays several years ago, and the company says it is “one of the best attended days of the week.” With the addition of a Wednesday promotion, the theatre chain hopes to lure in more moviegoers during the week.
“With the introduction by AMC of 50% off Wednesdays, we’re looking to turn Wednesday into a similarly strong-attendance day for moviegoers at our theatres,” Aron said.
Those looking to cash in on the 50% off Wednesday promotions must join AMC’s Stubs loyalty program, which is free to join.
