An Idaho man accused of killing his wife, her unborn child, and their 10-month-old son entered into a plea deal last week to avoid the death penalty.
Jeremy Best, who is 50 years old, has agreed to plead guilty to first degree murder in the killing of his son Zeke Best, whom he slit the throat of, and second degree murder in the murders of Kali Jean Randall and her unborn child, who were both shot to death, according to a report by KTVB.
Initially, Best was facing three first degree murder charges along with enhancements related to the use of a firearm or other deadly weapon. It was noted that prosecutors had indicated a year ago their intention to pursue the death penalty; however, Best is now looking at a potential sentence of life imprisonment as prosecutors have decided to forgo seeking the death penalty.
Previously covered by CrimeOnline, the authorities discovered Kali Best deceased in the couple’s residence in Victor on November 30, 2023. Following this, an Amber Alert was issued for their young child, with reports indicating that Best had murdered his wife and abducted the son.
On December 2, hunters found Best, naked and in a sleeping bag, alongside the road near Idaho Falls in Bonneville County. The sheriff’s office said Best was “making odd statements.” Earlier in the day, he was seen walking naked through a Dollar General Store in Swan Valley.
Investigators found the boy with a fatal neck wound.
Sentencing for Best has been set for July 23.
