At the event, Union glowed while introducing the new SimStyled salon experience in collaboration with JCPenney Salons, a venture she embarked on with Larry Sims, a well-known celebrity hairstylist and close friend.

During her talk in Los Angeles, the iconic actress from Bring It On shared one of her most important secrets for appearing flawless on the red carpet, which coincidentally aligned perfectly with the evening’s theme.

“A high pony for a lady of a certain age is like a facelift,” the actress stated, as reported by PEOPLE.

Pointing to the middle of her head, she explained, “[it’s] going to snatch you here, and a low [pony], here,” she continued while pointing to the back of her neck.

After noting how the ponytail can make it appear that someone has had work done, Union explained how her near-constant public presence couldn’t allow her to get an actual facelift.

“As much as what happens or doesn’t happen with my face is speculated, [you’re usually] missing for six months [after getting] a facelift,” Union also noted.

“I’ve never been missing for six months,” she expressed. “Get it right.”

Gabrielle Union’s SimStyled Salon Experience Is All About ‘Reaching People Where They’re At’

Union is often regarded for turning heads on the red carpets with her amazing hairstyles. With this in mind, she and Sims worked together to curate the SimStyled Salon Experience.

Using eight of her most lauded looks, the actress and Sims taught JCPenney salon workers in Los Angeles and San Diego how to emulate them quickly – two hours or less – and at prices that don’t weigh heavy on the wallet.

“It’s literally been [about] 20 years worth [of hairstyles with Sims],” Union explained.

“And so, we kind of had to figure out what are the most commented on and what [people] have most attempted to recreate. [Then], we had to work with the JCPenney team to come up with a variety of styles that meet all of our textured hair customers where they’re at without making them compromise.”

For Sims, the SimStyled experience is about a personal connection with salon workers and customers – not just learning through tutorials.

“I wanted [the salon workers] to feel the authenticity of my spirit and my passion for the movement, which is the SimsStyle method,” he shared.

“I wanted them to know that we were a team. It’s not them working for me or just for JCPenney. We’re family now and I need them to feel like we’re family so that [they’re] passionate about executing the vision. Because if they believe in the vision, then the customers [will be] be really happy with the results and that’s what we want.”

“This is 52,” Union began in the caption. “This is grown woman sh-t. This is being accountable for mess-ups [and] being gracious when others mess up. Being open to being wrong and being proud and confident when you are right.”

After a few more positive words, she closed with a strong statement.

“This is fighting for my people and yours. This is me at 52. Loving ALL of me,” Union shared.

After praising the common ponytail for her youthful looks, Union then shared a beauty don’t she hopes never makes a return.

“Something that shouldn’t come back: Using damaged hair as the thing,” she stated.

“You know what I mean? When your color is off and you’re like, ‘No, it was on purpose.’ No, it wasn’t. It wasn’t. Let’s bring healthy hair back and keep it here.”
