Hoda Kotb has often gushed about how her loved ones have defined her life — especially her daughters, Haley and Hope.
The anchor from Today became a mother by adopting her children in 2017 and 2019, with her then-partner, Joel Schiffman. Despite getting engaged in 2019 after six years of dating, the former couple decided to end their relationship in 2022.
When it comes to raising her children, Hoda often mentions her mother, Sameha Kotb, as a significant influence on her parenting style. She shared in a 2016 interview with Today, “She was a great mom. She was strict. That was our way of life. Understanding the meaning of ‘no’ was essential. There was no room for ‘But everyone else is doing it.’ She was not concerned with what others were doing.”
Following her split from Schiffman, Hoda discussed the lessons she was trying to instill in Haley and Hope.
Expressing her thoughts on parenting, Hoda mentioned in an interview with Us Weekly in November 2022, “One thing I really want to focus on with my daughters is encouraging them to find their voice. Teaching them to speak up for their needs and desires without feeling selfish, excessive, or too assertive… I want my girls to express themselves freely and confidently, without fear of judgment or the need to conform to others’ expectations.”
